Background

While providing plastic recycling solutions has always been at the core of Oatley Resources, we made a strategic decision in 2018 to develop our fibre trading business. One reason for this was to enable us to offer our UK suppliers a broader recycling solution for all of their materials. Since then we have traded more than 100,000 tonnes of fibre material sourced from UK suppliers and sold to a range of paper mills in the UK, mainland Europe, India and Far East destinations. We have formed strategic partnerships with companies in our destination regions and this has fostered mutual trust and respect.

Products & End-Destinations

Fibre grades include all grades of paper & cardboard and can include baled cardboard boxes, mixed paper recovered from household recycling, printers’ wastepaper, kraft sacks, cores and other packaging from commerce & industry. The bulk of the products we trade are referenced back to the European List of Standard Grades of Paper & Board for recycling – EN 643. This is incorporated into British Standard BS EN 643 and is an industry standard to promote quality & consistency. All paper mills and other fibre reprocessors on our database are required to submit permit and other environmental documentation and are checked and approved before any material is dispatched there.

Specialist Fibre Grades

Many grades of fibre are not generated in sufficient quantity to make up a bulk shipment, and so need to move more on an ad-hoc load by load basis. Unlike many fibre trading companies, we welcome the opportunity to work on these smaller volume grades. Using a similar approach as we follow for plastic enquiries, we focus on the quality of the product and any unique properties, and develop recycling options for the supplier.

Whether a grade is a single load every few months, or 1 or 2 loads every week, we are confident we can provide a competitive solution to suppliers. Likewise for reprocessing customers, we can source these niche grades to supplement mill production requirements. All loads follow our rigorous sampling & inspection process, including site visits and material inspections.

Grades that we work with regularly include shredded and unshredded cores, glassine paper, kraft sacks, high wet strength papers, scanboard and surplus or damaged reels and rolls.

Bulk Fibre Grades

Bulk grades cover products that are generated in high volumes on a regular basis. Quite often these grades are traded in shipments of 10-50 container or trailer loads at a time, giving suppliers the certainty that their stocks will move, as well as giving reprocessors the certainty of having raw material infeed to satisfy their mill production requirements. Typically different grades of cardboard, different grades of mixed paper and some box board grades all fall within the bulk category.
